Role Overview

We are looking for a Scientist role to lead the development of our lithium metal anode activities. This position manages the supply selection and manufacturing, preparation, analysis, assembly, and qualification of lithium metal anode components in the Fisker Battery R&D group. The individual will possess an excellent knowledge of Li-ion batteries with direct experience in lithium metal anode, qualification and testing before deployment in new battery cells. The candidate will also possess competencies in experimental methods related to cell electrochemistry development, ionic conductivity and interpretation of results using design of experiments. Candidate will be capable of working cross functionally with Application Engineering, Materials Development, Testing, and Process R&D functions of Fisker Inc.


  • Materials synthesis and handling including lithium metal, ceramics and ionically and electronically conductive materials.
  • Translate solid-state cell performance requirements into new materials synthesis or application of existing functional materials. 
  • Materials development and characterization methods, including wet chemistry synthesis of battery materials.
  • Drive Best practices in DFMEA and critical parameter development.
  • Drive innovation and improvements in materials, energy density cell design and cost.
  • Benchmark Fisker cell materials and design against competitor offerings. 
  • Support manufacturing in the product development cycles.
  • Plan and track projects to assume timely completion and achievement of project goals.  Report progress to leadership in timely basis.

Basic Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

  • PhD in electrochemistry, chemistry, analytical science, material science, polymer science, or engineering.
  • 3+years’ experience of working in R&D lab environment.
  • Strong electrochemical background and Li-ion battery experience are highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experiences in various analytical tools desired.
  • Hands-on experiences in assembling and testing cells using lithium metal anodes.
  • Experience of keeping data book and establishing lab document control system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Capability of training and supervising technicians and operational workers.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and in time-constrained situation.
  • Feel comfortable with multi-tasks.
  • Highly organized.

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competences

  • Experience with the formulation and preparation of slurries composed of lithium-containing ceramic materials.
  • Hands-on experience in the development of sintering conditions for lithium-ion containing ceramics.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.

Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.
