Role Overview

We are looking for a Scientist role to lead the development of our ceramic sintering activities. This position manages the slurry formulation, preparation, analysis, tape-casting, and sintering of ceramic components in the manufacturing processes in the Fisker Battery R&D group. The candidate should have experience with ceramic slurry formulation and preparation, ball milling, tape casting, and sintering. Ideally, the candidate should have experience with sintering lithium-ion containing ceramics. The candidate should be capable of working cross functionally with Application Engineering, Materials Development, Testing, and Process R&D functions of Fisker Inc. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment with aggressive deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Slurry formulation and preparation including rheology, quality control and mixing and coating operations related to lithium-ion component manufacturing.
  • Development of sintering conditions related to the sintering of lithium-ion containing ceramics.
  • Translate customers’ requirements into engineering specifications to develop electrodes that meets/exceeds customer’s performance, cost and quality requirements.
  • Manufacturing method development and characterization methods, including in-line monitoring of ceramic battery components.
  • Drive innovation and improvements in electrodes energy density, cell design and cost.
  • Drive best practices in lean manufacturing and critical parameter development.
  • Benchmark Fisker batteries and design against competitor offerings.
  • Benchmark Fisker electrodes and design against competitor offerings.
  • Plan and track projects to assume timely completion and achievement of project goals.  Report progress to leadership in timely basis.

Basic Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

  • M.S or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3+years of experience of working in ceramics and sintering development.
  • Hands-on experiences in various lithium-ion manufacturing processes desired.
  • Experience of keeping data book and establishing manufacturing document control system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Capability of training and supervising technicians and operational workers.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and in time-constrained situation.
  • Feel comfortable with multi-tasks.
  • Highly organized.

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competences

  • Experience with the formulation and preparation of slurries composed of lithium-containing ceramic materials.
  • Hands-on experience in the development of sintering conditions for lithium-ion containing ceramics.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.

Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.
