Role Overview

A Scientist role for designing and performing computation models related to lithium-ion battery cell design. This position is related to the development of batteries in the Fisker Battery R&D group. The individual will possess an excellent knowledge of computational models related to Li-ion batteries, and the underlying physical equations which dictate its operation. The candidate will ideally have direct experience using COMSOL Multiphysics for model building and as a partial differential equation solver. The candidate should be capable of working cross functionally with Application Engineering, Materials Development, Testing, and Process R&D functions of Fisker Inc. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment with aggressive deadlines.


  • Finite element modelling of 3D lithium-ion battery cells.
  • Provide feedback to engineers, based on computational results, to inform on cell design and structure.
  • Support engineers in the cell, module and pack design and development.
  • Report progress and results to leadership in timely basis.

Basic Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+years of experience of working in mathematical modeling of electrochemical systems.
  • Hands-on experiences in finite element analysis desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and in time-constrained situation.
  • Feel comfortable with multi-tasks.
  • Highly organized.

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competences

  • Experience with 3D models in COMSOL Multiphysics software package.
  • Working computational knowledge on Drift-Diffusion equations, Butler-Volmer equation, Faradays Law, and Ohms Law.
  • Knowledge of macro-homogeneous porous electrode model developed by John Newman.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to lift 25 lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.

Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends where needed to meet deadlines and company goals.
