Battery Technology (Cell Assembly): R&D Technician            

Job Summary:


This position is responsible for executing tasks concerning battery cells development in the R&D Laboratory. The individual will possess an excellent knowledge of Li-ion battery components and assembly methods as well as common practices related to the preparation of test cells for R&D experiments. The candidate will have direct experience in working in a battery R&D environment and will possess competencies in experimental methods related to cell development including but not limited to testing and characterization of active materials, electrolytes, separators, packaging materials, welding and cell functionality. Candidate will be capable of working cross functionally with Application Engineering, Materials Development, Manufacturing and Process R&D functions of Fisker Inc.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Electrodes and cell components manufacturing;
  • Lab scale cell assembly;
  • Basic materials characterization techniques, e.g. XRD, ICP, KF Titration, rheology measurements;
  • Translate engineers measurements requirements into proper lab scale testing. 
  • Run testing protocols for compliance with QC standards;
  • Tear down of failed battery cells, modules and packs and harvesting of components or materials for testing;
  • Support engineers in the cell, module and pack design and development;
  • Report progress and results to leadership in timely basis.


Position Qualifications:

  • BS, MS in Materials Science and  Engineering, electrochemistry or Chemical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+years experience of working in lithium-ion Lab environment
  • Strong Li-ion cell assembly and electrode construction are highly preferred
  • Hands-on experiences with various lithium-ion active materials or components desired
  • Experience of keeping test data logs and following materials characterization procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Willingness to work under pressure and in time-constrained situation
  • Feel comfortable with multi-tasks
